Star Fucking Hipsters ft. Boots Riley - 9/11 ‘til Infinity
I wanted to create a feature on the HoodieRipper blog where I could spotlight what I was listening to on any given day, but I couldn’t decide what to call it. I thought about “Today’s Jam” but I realized the likelihood of anything I was listening to being necessarily current was rather small, so really, the only name that fits is “Yesterday’s Jam”.
I’ve liked the Star Fucking Hipsters for a couple of years and The Coup for longer than that, so the idea of them collaborating on a song together (even if it is just one member of The Coup) is fucking amazing. I could listen to this track for hours.
This morning, after a week of sleet, snow and rain, the sun finally came out, and while I was out walking this showed up on my playlist. “Yup,” I thought. “This is the right soundtrack for the day,” so here it is for you to enjoy, too. (Besides, my friend Marielle’s in the video. She’s the Asian girl behind the table. She kicks ass.)
Three days to go before the first part of Molotov Hearts drops, and this song is the soundtrack for my already overly-amped sense of excitement. Also, geeks should watch this because it’s the best gaming-related video I’ve ever seen. Also also, Gandalf’s staff. Also also also, beer. Also also also also, Red Fang are freakin’ badass and you should listen to them.
It’s been a good week. The first installment of Molotov Hearts is up and there’s been a good response from people (even though not much has happened in it yet). Last night I went to a good party with overly-potent drinks and there’s a new Game of Thrones on tonight. I started my next writing project this morning and honestly I’m pretty much in love with the world at the moment. So how about a love song? Yeah, it’s a good day for a love song.
I don’t know how I somehow managed to miss hearing about a Circle Jerks/Red Kross/Rocket From The Crypt supergroup, but finding their new video (directed by Richard Kern!!!) made my week. Plus their full-length album drops next month! Stoked!
I just got back from spending the day at the Vancouver FanExpo, the first real large-scale geek convention Vancouver’s had since I-don’t-know-when. It was awesome, but exhausting. Saw Michael Dorn and Mirina Sirtis banter on stage (it seemed like possibly drunken banter, though I can neither confirm or deny this), hung/nerded out with friends, and ended up taking home a Tyrell Industries patch (“More Human Than Human”) and a Choose Your Own Adventure called You Are a Cat, which is absolutely as amazing as it sounds. I meant to give out a cubic buttload of my hot pink business cards, but I didn’t because that would have required me talking to people and I’m shy. Anyway, this song is for all my nerd kin that I spent the day with. Stay awkward and awesome, yo.
